Running into problems? Here are solutions to common issues when using XAI with Metorial.

"No tools available" or empty session.tools

Problem: session.tools is empty or undefined.

Solutions:

• Verify your server deployment ID is correct
• Check that your deployment has integrations configured in the Metorial dashboard
• Ensure your Metorial API key has access to the deployment

Authentication errors

Problem: Getting 401 or 403 errors.

Solutions:

• Double-check your Metorial API key is correct and not expired
• Verify your XAI API key is valid
• Ensure you're using the correct baseURL: https://api.x.ai/v1

Tool calls not executing

Problem: Grok returns tool calls but they don't execute.

Solutions:

• Make sure you're calling session.callTools(toolCalls)
• Verify tool calls exist before trying to execute: if (toolCalls && toolCalls.length > 0)
• Check that you're passing the tool calls in the correct format

"Duplicate tool names" errors

Problem: Error about duplicate function names.

Solution: Deduplicate tools before passing them to XAI:

Infinite loops

Problem: Your conversation loop never terminates.

Solution: Always set a maximum iteration limit:
