How to connect Google Slides to Claude Code

1. 1. Enable Google Slides in Metorial

   In your Metorial portal, enable the Google Slides MCP server and sign in with the account that owns the data. Access stays governed by your team policies.

2. 2. Add the server over HTTP

   Add --scope user to use it in every project.

   Run /mcp, select Metorial and sign in to load Google Slides tools.

• Create Presentation: Creates a new blank Google Slides presentation with a given title.
• Add Image: Inserts an image onto a slide from a public URL, or replaces all shapes matching a text pattern with an image across the presentation.
• Manage Slides: Create, duplicate, reorder, or delete slides within a presentation.
• Replace Text: Performs bulk find-and-replace of text across an entire presentation.
• Get Presentation: Retrieves the full structure of a Google Slides presentation including all slides, page elements, masters, and layouts.
• Add Shape: Adds a shape or text box to a slide.
• Embed Sheets Chart: Embed a chart from a Google Sheets spreadsheet into a slide, or refresh an existing linked chart to reflect updated spreadsheet data.
• Batch Update: Sends multiple raw update requests to a presentation in a single atomic batch.
• Manage Speaker Notes: Read or update the speaker notes for a specific slide.
• Edit Text: Insert, delete, or style text within a specific text box or shape element on a slide.
• Delete Element: Deletes a page element (shape, text box, image, chart, etc.) from a slide by its object ID.
• Get Slide Thumbnail: Generate a PNG thumbnail of the latest version of a Google Slides page as a downloadable file.

• Google Slides tools appear as mcp__metorial__<tool>. Use that name in permission rules to allow or deny a tool.
• Run /mcp to see whether Metorial is connected and to sign in again.
• Claude Code warns when a tool result passes 10,000 tokens and caps it at 25,000 by default. Raise the cap with MAX_MCP_OUTPUT_TOKENS.
• Pre-approve trusted Google Slides tools with allow rules in your settings so Claude Code stops asking each time.

Run /mcp, select Metorial, and sign in. If sign-in keeps failing, choose Clear authentication in the same menu and sign in again.

A teammate sees "Pending approval"

Servers shared through a project .mcp.json need approval. Run claude in the project and approve Metorial when asked.

Large tool results are cut off

Claude Code limits MCP tool output to 25,000 tokens by default. Raise it with the MAX_MCP_OUTPUT_TOKENS environment variable.
