How to connect Roboflow to Claude Code

  • Claude Code gets 21 Roboflow tools through one Metorial MCP URL.
  • Setup is 3 steps; teammates then sign in with SSO.
  • You need the Claude Code CLI.

What Claude Code can do with Roboflow

Ask your agent in plain language. Each of these maps to a real tool on the server.

  • Ask Claude Code to use the manage image tags tool in Roboflow
  • Ask Claude Code to use the list image batches tool in Roboflow
  • Ask Claude Code to use the get authenticated workspace tool in Roboflow
  • Ask Claude Code to use the move project to trash tool in Roboflow
  • Ask Claude Code to use the stop training tool in Roboflow

Add the Roboflow MCP server to Claude Code

Run these once. Afterwards, everyone you give access to signs in the same way.

  1. 1. Enable Roboflow in Metorial

In your Metorial portal, enable the Roboflow MCP server and sign in with the account that owns the data. Access stays governed by your team policies.

  2. 2. Add the server over HTTP

Add --scope user to use it in every project.

claude mcp add --transport http metorial <your-magic-mcp-url>
  3. 3. Sign in

Run /mcp, select Metorial and sign in to load Roboflow tools.

Give your team Roboflow in Claude Code

Once Roboflow is enabled in Metorial, teammates sign in with SSO and get the same connection in Claude Code, with only the tools their role allows.

One link covers every app you approve. See how the MCP gateway handles access, roles and audit logs for the whole company.

Using Roboflow tools in Claude Code

What to expect once Roboflow is connected.

  • Roboflow tools appear as mcp__metorial__<tool>. Use that name in permission rules to allow or deny a tool.
  • Run /mcp to see whether Metorial is connected and to sign in again.
  • Claude Code warns when a tool result passes 10,000 tokens and caps it at 25,000 by default. Raise the cap with MAX_MCP_OUTPUT_TOKENS.
  • Pre-approve trusted Roboflow tools with allow rules in your settings so Claude Code stops asking each time.

Troubleshooting Claude Code

claude mcp list shows "Needs authentication"
Run /mcp, select Metorial, and sign in. If sign-in keeps failing, choose Clear authentication in the same menu and sign in again.
A teammate sees "Pending approval"
Servers shared through a project .mcp.json need approval. Run claude in the project and approve Metorial when asked.
Large tool results are cut off
Claude Code limits MCP tool output to 25,000 tokens by default. Raise it with the MAX_MCP_OUTPUT_TOKENS environment variable.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about connecting Roboflow to AI agents with Metorial.

  1. Does Claude Code support the Roboflow MCP server?
Yes. Claude Code connects to the Roboflow MCP server through one CLI command, pointed at your Metorial URL. You need the Claude Code CLI.
  2. No. You sign in to Roboflow once through Metorial, and Claude Code uses that connection. No API keys go into Claude Code's settings.
  3. All 21 Roboflow tools your team allows, such as List Annotation Jobs, Upload Annotation, Run Inference. Admins can narrow that list per team.
  4. Yes. Role-based access control decides who can use Roboflow and which of its tools appear in Claude Code, and every call is logged with the person's identity.
  5. Run /mcp, select Metorial, and sign in. If sign-in keeps failing, choose Clear authentication in the same menu and sign in again.
