Census MCP server

Connect Census to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, GitHub Copilot and any other MCP client, for your whole team. Metorial adds security, governance, and tracing, and gives everyone one Magic MCP URL to connect.

What you can do with the Census MCP server

Ask your agent in plain language. Each of these maps to a real tool on the server.

  • Use the list webhooks tool in Census
  • Use the get dataset record tool in Census
  • Use the update sync tool in Census
  • Use the get sync runs tool in Census
  • Use the cancel sync run tool in Census
  • Use the list syncs tool in Census

Supported Tools

list_webhooks

List Webhooks

Lists all webhooks configured in the Census workspace, including their endpoint URLs, subscribed event types, and descriptions.

get_dataset_record

Get Dataset Record

Retrieves a single record from a Census dataset by its primary key. Datasets make warehouse data accessible via API. Can also list the available legacy datasets returned by the provider when no datasetId is provided.

update_sync

Update Sync

Updates the configuration of an existing sync. Allows modifying the label, operation, schedule, mappings, pause state, and notification settings. Only specified fields are updated; omitted fields remain unchanged.

get_sync_runs

Get Sync Runs

Retrieves sync run history and status for a specific sync. Use this to monitor sync progress, check for failures, and view record-level statistics. Can also fetch a single sync run by ID.

cancel_sync_run

Cancel Sync Run

Requests cancellation of a queued or working sync run. Data already transferred remains in the destination; acceptance is not confirmation that execution has stopped. Check get_sync_runs afterward.

list_syncs

List Syncs

Lists a page of sync configurations in the authenticated workspace. Set allPages to follow the complete documented pagination chain. Returns sync configurations including source, destination, operation type, schedule, and current status. Use pagination parameters to navigate large lists.

list_workspaces

List Workspaces

Lists organization workspaces authorized by an Activations personal token. Pass the selected workspaceId to workspace tools. Workspace API keys are already scoped; use get_workspace for their identity.

get_workspace

Get Workspace

Returns the authenticated workspace identity. Personal tokens require workspaceId from list_workspaces and owner/admin permission for read-only retrieval of its existing workspace key.

get_sync

Get Sync

Retrieves the full configuration and current status of a specific sync, including source and destination details, field mappings, schedule, and notification settings.

delete_sync

Delete Sync

Permanently deletes a sync configuration. This does not affect data already synced to the destination, but stops all future sync runs.

manage_webhook

Manage Webhook

Creates, updates, or deletes a Census webhook. Webhooks notify external HTTPS endpoints when sync alert events occur (e.g., sync failures, alert resolution). Specify an action: "create" to register a new webhook, "update" to modify an existing one, or "delete" to remove it.

trigger_sync

Trigger Sync

Requests a sync run; acceptance does not mean completion. The run can query a warehouse, transfer data, incur costs and delete destination records in mirror mode. By default, performs an incremental sync. Set forceFullSync to true to force a complete resync of all records.

create_sync

Create Sync

Creates a new data sync that moves data from a source (data warehouse) to a destination (SaaS tool). Configure the source object, destination object, field mappings, sync behavior, and schedule.

list_source_objects

List Source Objects

Discovers tables, models and segments for a source connection, including names, IDs and columns needed to configure a sync. Metadata discovery may query the warehouse.

list_destination_objects

List Destination Objects

Discovers destination object names, supported operations, fields and per-operation primary identifier requirements for configuring a sync.

list_connections

List Connections

Lists a page of source and/or destination connections without credentials or connection configuration. Set allPages to follow the complete documented pagination chain.

list_datasets

List Datasets

Lists current SQL dataset metadata, source IDs and columns. It does not retrieve records or use the separate legacy record-access API.

Connect Census to your AI client

Every client uses the same Magic MCP URL, and so does any other MCP client. Add it once and sign in with SSO.

  1. Enable Census in Metorial. In your Metorial portal, enable the Census MCP server and sign in with the account that owns the data. Access stays governed by your team policies.
  2. Add a custom connector. Open Customize, then Connectors. Select Add, then Custom, then Web.
  3. Paste your Metorial MCP URL. Name it Metorial, paste your Magic MCP URL (<your-magic-mcp-url>) and continue.
  4. Sign in. Select Add and sign in to load Census tools.

Run Census through the Metorial gateway

One governed layer for every app your agents reach, not a separate connector per tool.

  • Give Census and every other app to your whole team through one MCP gateway, behind your SSO.
  • Scope which teams and agents can use Census tools with role-based access control, and trace every call.
  • Prefer to run it yourself? Metorial is open source and self-hostable.

Technical notes for Census

Census, now Fivetran Activations, moves warehouse data to business applications. Discover workspaces and connection objects, create and configure syncs, request runs or cancellation, monitor status, list SQL datasets and manage webhooks. Historical dataset record access remains workspace-dependent during the API transition.
